Court Reserves June 2 Ruling on Ex‐NRC Finance Director’s ₦2.04bn Bail Application

Court Reserves June 2 Ruling on Ex‐NRC Finance Director’s ₦2.04bn Bail Application

Justice Abike‐Fadipe has reserved ruling on Felix Njoku’s bail application until June 2. Njoku, a former NRC Director of Finance, stands trial alongside three other officials in a ₦2.04 billion fraud and money laundering case. His counsel asked the court to extend interim bail, arguing Njoku complied with all conditions and reported regularly to the EFCC. The EFCC opposed, warning of a flight risk and potential witness interference among NRC staff. The trial then continued with testimony from Zenith Bank compliance officer Clement Ngbolu. He confirmed the bank provided account statements for Njoku’s company to the EFCC, and the documents were admitted as exhibits without objection. Justice Abike‐Fadipe adjourned the matter to May 12 for the next hearing. The defendants include former NRC MD Fidet Okhiria Edetanle and three directors facing fraud and money laundering charges.

Extending interim bail sounds sympathetic, but shouldn't the court push for stricter conditions given the scale of the alleged fraud?
