Politicisation of Military Operations Endangers National Security
Some politicians twist military operations to score points. This reckless tactic undermines our armed forces and disrespects the sacrifices of Nigerian soldiers. A recent case at the Jilli axis shows the danger of these narratives. A Boko Haram captive admitted insurgents used Jilli as their base before attacking Benisheikh. This confirms operations are intelligence-driven and aimed at dismantling terrorist strongholds, not at targeting innocent communities. Invoking ethnic or tribal sentiments in security debates is equally dangerous. Threats do not discriminate by tribe and our response must remain united. Calls that label military actions as “witch-hunts” without evidence only weaken public trust and embolden criminals. Politicians must allow security agencies to operate without interference. Clear oversight strengthens democracy. Destructive meddling, however, endangers lives and betrays public trust.
