Adegoke and Omokwe Spark Thrilling Kick-Off at MTN CHAMPS Final in Ibadan

The opening day of the MTN CHAMPS Grand Final at Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan delivered electrifying sprint action across all age groups. Enoch Adegoke set the pace in the men’s 100m heats with a season’s best of 10.30s, followed closely by Tejiri Godwin and Chidera Ezeakor (10.32s). Maria Thompson Omokwe led the women’s 100m qualifiers in 11.42s, with Chioma Nweke (11.70s) and Lydia Ajayi Bibilomo (11.81s) also advancing. In the 400m, Sisan Efejuku edged Ezekiel Asuquo by 0.01s to win in 47.70s, while Pemisire Adedoyin Adepoju claimed the women’s heat in a personal best of 54.28s. Ghana’s Kazali Iddrisu topped the Junior men’s 400m, and Treasure Okereke dominated the Junior girls’ field. Field events provided highlights too. Ruqqayah Kemi Mustapha won the women’s discus with 45.34m, and Babatunde Smith soared to a 1.93m personal best in the Youth boys’ high jump.
