Obi Urges Concrete Action After Benue and Plateau Attacks Left 27 Dead
Peter Obi, the NDC presidential candidate, has challenged the federal government to go beyond routine condemnations after deadly weekend attacks in Benue and Plateau States. In Benue, suspected gunmen killed two farmers in Akpachi before attacking Otukpo-Nobi, where 16 people died and many were injured. In Plateau’s Riyom LGA, nine members of one family, including an infant, were shot dead and a community leader seriously injured. Obi described the bloodshed as painful and unacceptable. He said the victims were more than casualty figures—they were parents, children and breadwinners. He urged a security strategy built on intelligence, swift intervention and accountability rather than post-attack reactions. He demanded the arrest and prosecution of those responsible and extended condolences to the bereaved families and the governments of both states. Obi stressed that protecting lives and property is the primary duty of any government.
