Oyo School Kidnapping: Police Honour Fallen Sergeant After Successful Rescue
Police officers from the Special Intervention Squad and the Intelligence Response Team joined the military to free 44 pupils and teachers abducted from Oriire schools. They treated the victims as their own, driving the operation to its success. Sergeant John Jerome Mbena paid the ultimate price during the rescue, and several other officers were injured. The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, mourned the loss and commended the bravery of all operatives involved. Disu confirmed that injured officers are recovering and assured continued support for their welfare and the family of the slain sergeant. He emphasised the power of joint security efforts and urged the public to share any useful information. SP Mohammed Abduramaan said the team never saw the children as strangers but as their own. He vowed to return to duty and remain committed to protecting Nigerians.
