Tinubu Removes Finance Chiefs After Lawmaker Exposes ₦1.15tr Missing Funds
President Bola Tinubu’s recent reshuffle saw Finance Minister Wale Edun dismissed just weeks after Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh laid bare a ₦1.15 trillion shortfall during a February budget defence hearing. At that session, the Aba North/Aba South lawmaker presented insider documents showing approved capital funds sat untouched, while roads, hospitals and schools received nothing. His follow-up questioning forced the Minister of State to admit no ministry met the pre-disbursement conditions. First the Minister of State for Finance was removed, and on April 20 the Secretary to the Government announced Edun’s sack, citing “strengthened cohesion.” Yet no investigation has been launched and no kobo has been recovered. Nigerians now wonder: was the whistle-blower rewarded or silenced?
