Anambra Kidnap Victim Reclaims Mercedes Found Upgraded After Disappearing from Police HQ
A Mercedes-Benz recovered from kidnappers and impounded at the Anambra State Police Command vanished from police custody. It later resurfaced in Port Harcourt with a full upgrade from a 2011 to a 2015 model. The owner, Basil Chukwuebuka of Awka Etiti, was abducted on February 28, 2024 and released three days later after paying a ransom. The Investigating Police Officer, identified only as Tochukwu, initially denied Chukwuebuka access and closed the case. Rumours swirled that a senior official had sold the car illegally. Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu brought the matter into the public eye on April 29. An internal probe located the modified vehicle in Rivers State, but how it was smuggled out, transported and upgraded remains a mystery.
