Tinubu Inaugurates State-of-the-Art Abuja Court of Appeal Complex to Boost Judicial Efficiency
President Bola Tinubu officially commissioned the new Court of Appeal Abuja Division building on June 15, 2026, with Vice President Kashim Shettima standing in for him. The world-class facility replaces cramped workspaces and aims to speed up legal proceedings and ease congestion in correctional centres. The complex features two large courtrooms, eight smaller ones, 10 fully digitized justice suites, conference halls, a library, administrative offices and supporting external works. The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, led the project to completion and highlighted the access road built to unlock development in the area. The Attorney General, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, applauded the administration’s 300% pay review for judicial officers as a bold step towards restoring dignity and independence to the judiciary. The President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, thanked the government for providing an environment that matches the weight of judicial responsibility. Officials emphasised that sustained funding and citizen contributions, such as ground rents, are crucial for ongoing urban renewal. The new complex is a centerpiece of the Renewed Hope Agenda’s broader mission to strengthen democratic institutions across Nigeria.
