Flamingos Coach Busari Names 36-Player Squad for U-17 WWCQ Second Round

Newly appointed head coach Akeem Ishola Busari has unveiled a 36-player squad as the Flamingos prepare for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup second round qualifier. They will face the winner of the Niger Republic vs. Guinea tie. The first leg of the opening round is in Niamey this weekend, with the return in Conakry next weekend. The second round kicks off on 22–24 May with Nigeria playing away, before hosting the return fixture on 30 May. Busari, who succeeds Bankole Olowookere, has selected five goalkeepers, ten defenders, 13 midfielders and eight forwards. The U-17 Women’s World Cup finals will be held in Morocco from 17 October to 7 November.

I'm curious what criteria Coach Busari used to select those 36 players for the U-17 qualifier squad?

I share your curiosity—hard to see what Busari looked for among these 36. Hope he had clear criteria behind every selection.

It's interesting that half the team has little international exposure, so balancing experience and potential must be tricky for a new coach.

A 36-player roster seems unwieldy; too many names can hinder focused training and team cohesion at this stage.

Club coaches should track each player's fitness and form closely to help Busari trim the squad without overlooking key talents.
