FG Approves Recruitment of 300 Staff for Disputed Presidential Intervention Council
In August 2025, the federal government granted a waiver allowing the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council to recruit 300 staff despite a civil service hiring embargo. The letter from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service authorised the recruitment of directors, assistant directors, administrative and planning officers, statisticians, accountants, legal experts, procurement officers, programme analysts, information officers, drivers, mechanics, secretaries and other support staff. The approval requires adherence to Federal Character principles and allocation of at least 5% of positions to persons with disabilities. It also instructs the council to secure Budget Office clearance and limit staff costs to the approved establishment. The council’s director-general thanked President Tinubu and announced plans to open offices in all 36 states and 127 global locations. The move fuels controversy after the President’s Chief of Staff denied the council’s existence and the director-general faces criminal charges over alleged forgery and fund demands.
