Calabar Man Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Raping His Daughter
A Cross River State family court has sentenced 46-year-old Imeh Sunday to life imprisonment for raping his daughter. The verdict was delivered on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, by Justice Blessing Egwu at Family Court 2 in Calabar after the prosecution presented overwhelming evidence. The case was handled with support from the Basic Rights Council Initiative (BRCI), a non-governmental organisation dedicated to protecting the rights of children and indigent women. Principal Counsel James Ibor said the conviction advances efforts to secure justice for survivors of sexual violence in the state. Ibor also commended the survivor, her grandparents, the Honourable Attorney General Ededem Charles Ani, law enforcement, the judiciary and BRCI staff and volunteers for their commitment to the survivor’s recovery and the rule of law.
