I’ve tried indomie and chicken, rice and chicken, beans with fried plantains, and egusi soup with assorted meat. None of them make me feel as alive as akara and koko. Maybe it’s because I bought these snacks with my own hard-earned cash. As soon as I take a bite, I can’t help but hum a song and sway side to side in my chair. Even after I finish, I find myself looking for those last tiny drops of bean cake crumbs and pap. I forget about my struggles and just enjoy the moment.
