Harmonising Transcript Issuance Procedures in Nigerian Universities
Recent events at Maduka University have highlighted inconsistent transcript policies across Nigerian tertiary institutions. Some schools issue student copies on request, while others only send transcripts directly to other institutions, leaving graduates frustrated when applying to multiple programs. I propose that every university provide a student copy of academic transcripts upon graduation or on request. Once a student secures admission, the receiving institution can request a certified true copy directly for final verification after payment of the prescribed processing fee. This balances transparency for students with safeguards against falsification. With modern technology, schools can host academic records on a secure portal. Graduates could download pre-stamped documents after completing an electronic form and fee payment. A nationwide, uniform procedure will streamline admissions and eliminate current confusion.
