Benue APC Primaries: David Mark’s Daughter and SGF’s Wife Secure Reps Tickets Amid Major Upsets
Blessing Onuh, daughter of former Senate President David Mark, clinched the APC ticket for Otukpo/Ohimini. Regina Akume, wife of the SGF, will contest Gboko/Tarka in the 2027 election. The direct primaries held across Benue’s 11 federal constituencies produced six upsets as incumbents loyal to Senator George Akume fell to candidates aligned with Governor Hyacinth Alia. New contenders emerged victorious in Makurdi/Guma, Gwer East/Gwer West, Kwande/Ushongo, Vandeikya/Konshisha, Buruku, and Oju/Obi. Tensions flared in Buruku following result snatching and a presiding officer’s failure to submit vote sheets, leading to an arrest. The National Assembly Primary Election Committee chairman urged all aspirants to accept the outcomes in good faith and avoid bitterness.
