1 / 5

Former Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain says Mikel Arteta was already acting like a manager on the training ground. Even while Arsène Wenger held the top job, Arteta organised opposition analysis sessions the squad had never used before. Oxlade-Chamberlain recalls that Wenger’s era focused mainly on Arsenal’s own play. “Mikel became our boss when it came to big games,” he explains. “He made us study corners and opponents in detail.” He recently joined Arsenal training ahead of his move to Celtic and saw firsthand how Arteta’s methods mirror the precision of top managers. “Every detail is crazy,” Oxlade-Chamberlain adds, “and it reminded me of Pep Guardiola’s teams.”

I'm not convinced Arteta's prior role justifies calling him a manager already, especially without seeing the actual impact on results.
