Dangote to Invest 20,000MW in Power Generation to Transform Nigeria’s Grid
Aliko Dangote has announced plans to invest up to 20,000 megawatts in power generation across Nigeria. Currently, the country produces only about 4,000–4,500MW, well below its installed capacity of over 13,000MW. He shared this target in a recent interview with the IFC managing director and highlighted other ongoing projects in fertiliser production, LNG, port development and his $20 billion refinery, now processing 650,000 barrels per day. The refinery’s success has reinforced his commitment to large-scale investments in Africa. His group aims to expand fertiliser output to 12 million tonnes annually, open potash and phosphate mines in Congo and Brazil, build an 18-metre draft deep-sea port and boost LNG capacity. Dangote said these initiatives are backed by strong cash flows and asset flexibility. He believes addressing structural trade barriers will make such investments even more impactful for the continent.
