7 Signs You May Be Dehydrated and When to Seek Help
Dehydration happens when the body loses more fluid than it takes in. It can follow heavy sweating, fever, exercise, vomiting, diarrhoea, or simply not drinking enough water. Common warning signs include unusual thirst, dark yellow urine, dry mouth or cracked lips, headache, dizziness, tiredness, muscle cramps, and urinating less often than usual. Pale yellow urine is generally a useful sign of good hydration, although some foods, medicines, and supplements can affect its colour. Drink water regularly, especially in hot weather or after exercise. Water-rich foods such as watermelon, cucumber, oranges, and soups can also help. Seek urgent medical care for confusion, fainting, severe weakness, inability to keep fluids down, or very little or no urination. Children, older adults, and sick people may need attention sooner.
