Ronaldo’s Double Propels Portugal to 5-0 Rout of Uzbekistan

Portugal made a statement at the FIFA World Championship by thrashing Uzbekistan 5-0. Veteran captain Cristiano Ronaldo stole the show with a clinical brace. Ronaldo opened the scoring in the sixth minute after a precise assist from João Cancelo. Portugal doubled their lead in the 17th minute with a trademark free kick from Nuno Mendes. A late VAR review ruled out an Uzbekistan effort in the 29th minute. Bruno Fernandes then set up Ronaldo for his second goal just before halftime. The floodgates opened further after the break when an unfortunate own goal from goalkeeper Abduvakhid Nematov made it 4-0. Substitute Rafael Leão capped the demolition with a stunning top-corner strike in the 87th minute. Portugal’s fluid attack, defensive discipline and squad depth underlined their credentials as tournament contenders.
