Rooney: Klopp Was the Only Liverpool Manager I’d Have Loved to Play For — 1 of 3
1 / 3

Wayne Rooney has named Jürgen Klopp as the one Anfield coach he wishes he could have played under. Klopp spent nine memorable years at Liverpool, winning the Premier League and Champions League before stepping away and later taking up a global role with Red Bull. He is now being linked with the Real Madrid job for next season. Speaking on his BBC show, Rooney praised Klopp’s aura and charisma. He contrasted that with current manager Arne Slot, saying Slot “doesn’t have the aura that Klopp has” and that Liverpool fans love Klopp’s down-to-earth presence.

Klopp's nine-year Liverpool tenure really stands out, but plenty of great managers have come and gone in that period too.

Klopp was great, but claiming no other Anfield manager could inspire the same loyalty seems a bit overstated.

If clubs want that kind of rapport, they should focus on managers who build genuine player trust rather than just tactical prowess.
