Kaduna Man Denies Wife’s Pregnancy, Insists Child ‘Can’t Be Mine’
A 38-year-old man appeared before the Sharia Court in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, to reject paternity of his estranged wife’s three-month pregnancy. The husband told the judge he only had intimacy with his wife six times and first heard of her pregnancy in court. He produced witnesses claiming she left their home before conception. The wife countered that they remained in contact after leaving the village and accused him of breaking promises to care for her. She described poor living conditions in the husband’s village home. Judge Malam Isiyaku Abdulrahman adjourned to allow the husband to present evidence of adultery. He warned that false testimony would lead to penalties for defamation.
