Riluwan Idris has won Team Nigeria’s third gold medal at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games after claiming the men’s heavyweight para powerlifting title. Idris lifted 208kg and scored 132.8 points despite competing at a body weight of 86kg. England’s Matthew Harding took silver with 199kg and 131.0 points, while Malaysia’s Nicodemus Moses claimed bronze with 120.3 points. In the women’s heavyweight category, Folashade Oluwafemiayo and Rita Ferdinand won gold and silver respectively, with both athletes setting world records. Team Nigeria ended the opening day with six medals.
