Russia and Ukraine carried out a humanitarian exchange, returning the bodies of more than 550 soldiers killed in the war. A senior Russian lawmaker said Ukraine received 522 fallen troops while Russia got back 33. Kyiv later confirmed the swap. Last month, Ukrainian authorities announced Russia had handed over 528 bodies of its soldiers, while Russian media said Ukraine returned 41 of its fallen servicemen. Those earlier exchanges were linked to prisoner-of-war swaps mediated by the United Arab Emirates. Such returns remain one of the few humanitarian cooperations between the two sides since the 2022 invasion, according to international media.

The numbers are stark: Ukraine received 522 bodies while Russia got 33. It highlights how unequal the toll seems between both sides.
