Panic in Osun: False Bandit Invasion Rumour Forces Schools to Shut
A rumour of a bandit invasion on Tuesday sparked widespread panic in parts of Osun State, particularly Ikirun and Ila. Public and private schools in Boluwaduro, Ila, Odo Otin, Boripe, Ede, Osogbo and Olorunda LGAs closed abruptly before 11am as students and teachers fled home. The scare was stoked by reports of a schoolgirl’s abduction near Oyan Road, which turned out to be false. By the time the truth emerged, fear had spread across several communities. Governor Ademola Adeleke dismissed the claim as a hoax by “evil opposition elements” and assured residents that the Ministry of Education and security agencies are implementing a strategy to secure all schools.
