17 Police Officers Killed in Terrorist Attack on Yobe Army Special Forces School
The Nigeria Police Force announced that 17 officers died in a coordinated terrorist attack on the Army Special Forces School in Buni Yadi, Gujba LGA, Yobe State. The assault began around 1:15 a.m. on May 8, 2026, when militants struck from multiple directions. Several Nigerian Army personnel also lost their lives repelling the attack. Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu praised the fallen officers for their courage and commitment to national security. He extended the Force’s condolences to the bereaved families and vowed that their sacrifice would never be forgotten. Yobe State Commissioner of Police Usman Jibrin visited the school to comfort survivors and commend their resilience. The IGP assured Nigerians that the Police, working with the Armed Forces and other agencies, will pursue those responsible and bring them to justice.
