8,000 Fertiliser Bags Distributed to Ogun Farmers to Boost Food Security
Ogun State Government and the National Agricultural Development Fund have rolled out 8,000 bags of fertiliser to smallholder farmers across all 20 local government areas. This move reflects the state’s drive to strengthen food production and ensure sustainable agriculture. The Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Bolu Owotomo, represented by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Agriculture, Mr Adeleke Otegbeye, explained that timely access to quality inputs will raise crop yields, boost farmers’ incomes and support long-term growth. Ogun has received 15,160 bags so far and awaits an additional 5,000 to reach a total allocation of 20,160 bags. As part of the Renewed Hope Agenda, the programme aims to lower production costs and stabilise food prices across the state. NADF Monitoring and Evaluation representative Mr Oluwatosin Vaughan urged farmers to use the fertiliser efficiently, while the Chairman of Ajegunle Farm Settlers Council, Mr Rotimi Sogunle, commended both federal and state governments for the intervention. Beneficiaries expressed optimism that this initiative will mirror past successes, reduce input costs and lead to more affordable food for residents.
