Taming Your Tongue with the Holy Spirit

The Bible compares our tongue to a bit in a horse’s mouth. Just as a rider uses the bit to guide a horse, we need the Holy Spirit to guide our speech. Our words come from the heart, so no amount of willpower alone can tame the tongue. James 3:2–3 reminds us that controlling our speech leads to control in every part of our lives. Matthew 12:34 shows that “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” Only a Spirit-filled heart can truly govern our words. As we enter May, let’s commit to being filled with the Holy Spirit so our tongues reflect God’s will. Happy new month of May. May this month be full of God’s blessings for all of us in Jesus’ name.
