Ebonyi PDP, APC Trade Claims Over Alleged PVC Buying Ahead of 2027
The Ebonyi State chapters of the PDP and APC are trading accusations over an alleged scheme to buy Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the 2027 general election. PDP publicity secretary Darlington Onwe alleged that the APC-led state government was preparing to use claims of PVC procurement to intimidate, arrest and detain opposition members. He also referenced a previous attack on journalists and PDP supporters at a party event in Ezza South, calling for protection of political rights and accountability. Governor Francis Nwifuru’s aide on inter-party affairs, Sunday Nwambam, rejected the allegation as baseless and asked the PDP to provide evidence. APC chairman Stanley Okoro Emegha, however, claimed that some PDP members had been arrested in Abakaliki over alleged PVC buying, warning that voters should not surrender their cards for money.
