Thai Police Arrest 24-Year-Old Nigerian in Nonthaburi Romance Scam Bust — 1 of 4
1 / 4

Authorities in Nonthaburi province arrested a 24-year-old Nigerian man after spotting him acting suspiciously at an ATM near Phra Nang Klao Hospital. Officers seized 42 mobile phones, seven ATM cards and about 11,000 baht in cash from him. A search of his condominium uncovered even more devices. The suspect claimed the items belonged to his Thai girlfriend, who runs a mobile phone business and asked him to withdraw cash on her behalf. Police linked the woman to at least 23 online fraud complaints involving romance scams across Thailand. The Nigerian man is charged with illegal possession and use of electronic cards in a way likely to cause public harm. Authorities say they are intensifying scrutiny of foreign nationals tied to transnational cybercrime and online scam operations.

Seizing 42 mobiles and seven ATM cards seems excessive for a single operator; I wonder if there was a larger network behind him.

That's quite a haul to handle solo—I'm with you, sounds like a bigger crew had to be in play.

Carrying multiple phones and ATM cards looks suspicious, but without confirmed transaction records or victim statements it alone doesn't prove he ran a romance scam.

Next time you see someone juggling many phones or cards at an ATM, alert the bank's security or local police before they vanish with unsuspecting victims' cash.
