NADECO to Unveil “The NADECO Story” Memoir, Honour Democracy Champions in Lagos
Some 33 years after its founding, the National Democratic Coalition will mark its legacy on May 20 in Lagos. Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka will chair the event, retired Lt. General Theophilus Danjuma will serve as chief launcher and Oba Rasheed Ladoja will hold court as Royal Father of the Day. The programme includes the launch of “The NADECO Story,” a comprehensive 509-page memoir by the coalition’s Secretary and Spokesman. Awards will honour newspaper houses, journalists, human rights activists, civil society groups, academia, business leaders and retired armed forces officers who advanced Nigeria’s democracy. Posthumous tributes will celebrate Late Chief MKO Abiola, Late Kudirat Abiola and other fallen pioneers. Special recognition will go to the 54 people who signed the original communique in May 1994, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Organisers say the ceremony is a long-overdue tribute to the resilience and dignity of Nigerians, and a reminder that every generation must defend and build on these democratic gains.
