BBC Report Links South African Special Forces to Detective’s Murder

I was shocked when I heard this report on the radio this morning. It alleges that members of South Africa's special forces were involved in the 2023 killing of Lt Col Frans Mathipa, a senior detective with the Hawks who was investigating the alleged abduction and murder of an Ethiopian man, Abdella Abadigga, and his bodyguard. Court and police documents reportedly link vehicles registered to a special-forces front company to both the alleged abduction and Mathipa's shooting outside Pretoria. Major Sunnybooi Wambi and other military personnel have been charged in connection with the cases, but they deny the allegations. The report also raises concerns that some accused officers remain in military service despite revoked bail orders, while no trial date has been fixed. Mathipa's family is still demanding justice, and Abadigga's body has not been found. This is on another level. It reminds me of allegations involving military personnel in the deaths of Abba Kyari's men in Nigeria.
