ICPC Refutes Claims of Security Breach by El-Rufai’s Wife
The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission has rejected allegations that the wife of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai was denied access to deliver food to him while he remains in custody. ICPC spokesman John Odey clarified that the commission’s policy allows all visitors entry between 9:00am and 6:30pm. He noted the woman arrived after closing time at around 7:00pm, despite earlier visits by family members who delivered meals three times that same day. Odey also dismissed suggestions that medical personnel were blocked from seeing El-Rufai. He explained the commission simply requires formal identification and written requests, and that the former governor has already attended dental and eye appointments under escort. Describing El-Rufai as a high-profile detainee, the ICPC said heightened security measures protect him and others in custody. The commission insists his detention is judicial, not political, and will release him once he meets his bail conditions.
