A woman cannot determine whether her baby will be a boy or a girl. Every egg from the mother carries an X chromosome, while the father’s sperm carries either an X or Y chromosome. An X-bearing sperm results in a girl, while a Y-bearing sperm results in a boy. Having four daughters is not a woman’s failure or a reason for abuse. Sex selection is a matter of biological chance, and blaming a wife for not having sons ignores basic science. Families should value and protect girls equally.
