3 Civilians Killed as Troops Quell Unrest in Jos North
A wave of unrest in Jos North LGA left three civilians dead before troops and security agencies restored calm. The tensions followed a March 29 attack on commuters near Angwan Rukuba Junction. The disturbances began around 9:30 a.m. in Nasarawa area and quickly spread to Katako Junction, Farin Gada, Gada Biu, Angwan Rogo, Rikos and nearby communities. Hoodlums attacked properties and attempted to set places of worship ablaze. Troops from the 3 Division Nigerian Army, Operation Enduring Peace and other forces deployed swiftly. They foiled further attacks, evacuated the victims and restored relative calm. A strong security presence remains in Jos and neighbouring LGAs to deter fresh unrest.
