Kalu Threatens to Quit APC if Tinubu Disrespects Catholic Church

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu says he would resign from the All Progressives Congress if President Bola Tinubu ever disrespects the Catholic Church or the opposition. Kalu made the remarks during a television interview while reacting to controversy over Tinubu’s meeting with the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria. The bishops had raised concerns about worsening economic hardship and insecurity during the meeting in Abuja. Former Abuja Archbishop Cardinal John Onaiyekan later said the President was unhappy with the bishops’ message, while presidential aide Daniel Bwala accused the Catholic Church of supporting the opposition. Kalu defended the bishops’ right to speak on national issues, saying religious leaders must remain the conscience of the country. However, the former Abia governor said comments by presidential aides should not automatically be treated as Tinubu’s personal position. He maintained that the President has a good relationship with the Catholic Church.
