Tinubu Has Not Won 2027: Voter Turnout Could Decide the Election
The claim that the 2027 election is already decided can deepen voter apathy. Repeatedly telling frustrated Nigerians that voting is pointless may discourage them from showing up on Election Day. Voter turnout has declined in recent elections, and that remains a serious threat to political change. If millions stay home in 2027, the incumbent will benefit—not because the outcome was inevitable, but because citizens surrendered their influence. The lesson from 2023 is not that votes do not matter. It is that mobilisation matters. Opposition parties and concerned citizens should organise from states down to local governments, wards, villages and polling units. Every voter can help by speaking with friends, neighbours and relatives who have stopped voting. Frustration with politicians or distrust of the system should not make the decision for us. Show up, vote, and encourage someone else to do the same.
