Nigeria Must Respond to South Africa’s Brutal Xenophobic Violence
Nigerians face violent mob attacks in South Africa. Videos circulating online show immigrants beaten, stoned, and assaulted with bricks. Homes were torched in Mossel Bay, leaving hundreds displaced. At least five Mozambican migrants were killed in early June. Vigilante groups burned around 55 shacks, some with people still inside. Families fled into the bush amid these savage assaults. This systematic brutality feels like a declaration of war on African migrants. Nigeria and other nations deserve a strong reaction to protect their citizens abroad.
