EFCC Wins Final Forfeiture of N3.444bn and Three Properties Linked to Ex-NNPC Gas MD

EFCC Wins Final Forfeiture of N3.444bn and Three Properties Linked to Ex-NNPC Gas MD

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the final forfeiture of N3.444 billion and three properties tied to Salihu Nuhu Jamari, a former managing director at the NNPC’s Gas and Power Investment Company. Justice J.O. Abdulmalik granted the order on March 31, 2026, following an EFCC motion filed earlier that month. The assets include an unfinished six-bedroom duplex in Asokoro, a two-bedroom flat in Ikoyi, and a restaurant in Lokogoma. The EFCC says the funds stem from an alleged scheme of conspiracy, kickbacks, bribery and money laundering. Investigators traced the proceeds through two private firms where Jamari served as director and signatory. After reviewing the evidence, the court found the anti-graft agency’s case meritorious and permanently forfeited the funds and properties to the Federal Government.

This might win headlines, but real deterrence requires systemic change beyond seizing assets from one ex-MD.

Authorities should publish clear guidelines on asset recovery timelines to ensure transparency and build citizen confidence.
