Boehly Reportedly Discusses Selling Chelsea Stake to Clearlake
Todd Boehly and Mark Walter have reportedly discussed selling their Chelsea shares to majority owners Clearlake Capital. Clearlake holds 61.5% of the club, while Boehly, Walter and Hansjorg Wyss each hold 12.8%. Although Boehly remains Chelsea chairman, Clearlake executives Behdad Eghbali and Jose Feliciano are understood to have significant control over the club’s direction. The owners bought Chelsea in a £2.5 billion deal four years ago. The reported discussions come amid uncertainty over Chelsea’s long-term stadium plans. The club is weighing an expansion of Stamford Bridge against a possible move to Earl’s Court, while limited space in London continues to complicate the project. Tensions between Boehly and Clearlake had previously been reported, including disagreement over Mauricio Pochettino’s exit in 2024. Chelsea have since appointed Xabi Alonso after Enzo Maresca’s departure in early 2026.
