Anambra Women Demand Probe into Young Mother’s Mysterious Death
Hundreds of women from Umuenwelum community in Anambra West LGA have staged a peaceful protest over the death of Anthonia Okafor, who died shortly after childbirth in Lagos on April 9, 2026. Marching under the Umuada Umuenwelum banner, the protesters dressed in black and carried green leaves to demand justice. They cited visible injuries on her body and inconsistent explanations from her husband. When they visited her in-laws’ compound, it was found locked with no one available to address their concerns. Civil society groups have also joined calls for a transparent investigation into her death and the handling of her body. No official statement has been released yet. This is serious—women do not protest without cause. A full investigation is needed if questions remain.
