Edda Clan Opposes Clemency for Okporojo Murder Suspects
The people of Edda clan in Ebonyi State have rejected calls for clemency and unconditional release of suspects on trial for the killing and beheading of four Okporojo indigenes. They described the January attack as shocking and traumatic. Three victims were beheaded, residents were abducted, and about 29 houses were destroyed. Many families were displaced. In a statement from the clan’s Abakaliki branch, they praised the governor for prosecuting the 33 suspects. They warned that any pressure for clemency could undermine ongoing peace and reconciliation efforts. The clan urged the government to uphold justice and allow the courts to conclude the trial. They stressed that lasting peace depends on accountability and respect for the rule of law.
