Why Nigeria Must Prioritise Security Over Politics

Nigeria can no longer treat national security as a political game. Protecting lives and property must always come before partisan rivalry or sectional interests. The rescue of teachers and students abducted in Oyo State after 56 days shows what happens when federal, state and local authorities unite with security agencies. Coordination and intelligence sharing delivered a successful operation and saved lives. Terrorism, banditry and kidnapping have driven farmers from their land, disrupted businesses and weakened rural economies. These failures have serious consequences for food production, employment and national development. Security agencies must work professionally and free from political interference. Every Nigerian has a duty to resist attempts to divide us and to support lawful efforts that keep our nation safe. A secure country inspires confidence, attracts investment and drives growth—patriotism, not partisanship, should guide our approach to national security.

I agree, setting up shared security committees and nonpolitical emergency protocols would keep safety first.

It's telling that despite the Oyo rescue collaboration, we still see politicians delaying decisions until public pressure forces action.

Local communities should form rapid response committees and share intelligence with state agencies to avoid prolonged abductions like in Oyo.
