DSS Secures Second Death Sentence as Katsina Court Hangs Female Arms Courier
A Federal High Court in Katsina has sentenced Hauwa’u Mukhtar to death by hanging. She was convicted of conspiring to commit, aid and abet terrorism in Zamfara State. Mukhtar was arrested on September 16, 2023 at Jibia Motor Park with 438 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition bound for a notorious bandit kingpin. After reviewing evidence, witness statements and exhibits, Justice A. B. Bawale found her guilty on both counts under the Penal Code Law of Katsina State, 2021. This is the second death sentence secured by the DSS in June. Earlier this month, a court in Abuja handed four men the death penalty for the June 2022 attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo. About a month ago, the DSS also won a 20-year jail term for another female arms courier in Abuja. Security sources say these convictions underscore the agency’s resolve to follow through with decisive legal action.
