Bruno Fernandes Named FWA Footballer of the Year, Edges Out Declan Rice
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has won the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year award, the first United player to do so since Wayne Rooney in 2010. The 31-year-old finished the season with 19 assists, one shy of the Premier League record, and scored eight goals for a total of 27 goal contributions. His performances helped United secure third place and Champions League qualification. Fernandes claimed 45 percent of the vote from over 900 FWA members, finishing just 28 votes ahead of Arsenal’s Declan Rice. Erling Haaland was third, while Arsenal’s other nominees split the remaining votes.
