Bengaluru Police Seize MDMA Worth ₦4.9bn, Arrest Four Including Nigerian National

In a coordinated raid, Hebbal police teams arrested four alleged inter-state drug peddlers and seized 17.58 kg of MDMA crystals valued at about ₹34 crore (around ₦4.9 billion). One suspect, a Nigerian national, had publicly taunted local authorities on social media and vowed to continue trafficking despite the intensified crackdown. Investigators say the ring hid the MDMA inside food packets to slip past checkpoints. They also allege a kingpin operating from Nigeria directed local dealers by sending encrypted messages after an earlier seizure. The arrested include Solomon Tochukwu, Rakhangmi Tanirose, Mohan Kumar and Johnson. Police are tracing a wider interstate network and other associates involved in the racket.

Could this single arrest truly disrupt broader trafficking networks, or might smugglers simply reroute their operations elsewhere?

No be small thing to nab 17.58 kg of MDMA crystals worth billions, yet similar operations seem to slip through borders regularly.

While this seizure sounds impressive, it might simply reflect a fraction of a much larger trade that rarely sees such high-profile busts.

Police could deepen intelligence-sharing with neighbouring states and communities to intercept such large consignments before they reach urban centers.
