FG Launches Task Force to Sustain Nigeria’s Ebola-Free Status
The Federal Government has set up a Presidential Task Force to maintain Nigeria’s current zero-case record for Ebola Virus Disease. The initiative aims to position the country as a leader in epidemic preparedness across Africa. At the State House inauguration, the Chief of Staff and Task Force Chairman highlighted that preventive strategies and lessons from the 2014 outbreak underpin Nigeria’s strengthened surveillance and response systems. He stressed that all hands must be on deck to keep the nation Ebola-free. Sub-committees on border management, immigration control and disease surveillance have been established. Partnerships with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and international airports, land border agencies and border communities are key to rapid detection and response. The Task Force includes top officials from federal and state health ministries, the Federal Airports Authority, the Border Management Agency, NCDC leadership and the WHO Representative in Nigeria. These structures aim to ensure lasting readiness against any future Ebola threats.
