VP Shettima Visits El-Rufai to Mourn His Late Mother

Vice President Kashim Shettima paid a condolence visit on Monday to former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai following the passing of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai. A presidential aide shared on social media that Shettima described the late Hajiya Umma as a woman of great virtue and a pillar of strength for her family. He offered prayers for her soul’s repose and for the El-Rufai family to find comfort during this difficult time. Since her death in Cairo, dignitaries have been visiting the former governor’s residence in Abuja to pay their respects and support the family in mourning.

Absolutely, he likely wanted to share in his grief and show that he values that personal connection beyond politics.

It's interesting that the VP chose to publicly mourn El-Rufai's mother now, rather than privately offering condolences last week.

I'm not sure a public visit is the best way to express sympathy, it can come off as political theatre.

When offering condolences in politics, a private visit followed by a brief public statement often balances respect and transparency.
