Why I Left PDP for NDC: Dickson Says He’s Not After Power or Patronage
Former Bayelsa governor and NDC national leader Seriake Dickson explained his departure from the PDP on Arise TV’s Prime Time. He argued that many politicians switch to the ruling party for appointments, contracts and influence, but said he chose a different path by building a strong opposition party. Dickson recalled the challenges he faced after the PDP lost power in 2015 and insisted democracy needs credible alternatives to thrive. He also alleged that some defectors use federal influence to skew elections and intimidate rivals, but stressed, “I am not that kind of politician,” adding that his move was driven by democratic principles and the urgent need for genuine opposition in Nigeria’s political landscape.
