Coalition Train Still Moving Despite Peter Obi’s Exit, Ex-Aide Insists

Paul Ibe, a former media aide to Atiku Abubakar, says the African Democratic Congress coalition remains on track despite Peter Obi and other key figures leaving. Ibe made the statement after Obi resigned, citing external interference and internal divisions. He insisted the movement is gaining momentum ahead of its planned primary elections. The coalition launched in 2025 with figures like Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi and Peter Obi to challenge President Tinubu in 2027. Obi formally joined in January 2026 but announced his departure in May 2026. Ibe added that the coalition is still picking up new members and that their current focus is delivering the party’s primary election timetable.

It's surprising they insist the coalition is on track after losing a key figure like Peter Obi so abruptly.

I'm not convinced Atiku's coalition can stay united without Obi's support; internal divisions seem deeper than they admit.

They should address the reported interference head-on by clarifying leadership roles and improving communication across party factions.
