Ibeju-Lekki Council Intensifies Drainage Clearance to Combat Flooding

Ibeju-Lekki Council Intensifies Drainage Clearance to Combat Flooding

Sesan Olowa, Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Council Development Area, says his administration is fully committed to ending recurring floods in communities like Ibeju, Orimedu, Lakowe and Awoyaya. The council has ramped up drainage clearance, opened blocked waterways and begun routine desilting. It is working with state agencies, engineers and environmental officers to design sustainable flood-control solutions. Residents are also being urged to avoid dumping waste into drains and canals. The administration says flood control is a shared responsibility and calls on everyone to report blocked channels promptly. In addition to improving drainage infrastructure, the council is strengthening emergency response measures and reminding citizens to heed weather advisories. Protecting lives and property remains its top priority.
