Benue Police Threaten Tough Action Against Cattle Rustlers
The Benue State Police Command has warned that anyone involved in cattle rustling or supporting the practice will face strict legal action. Commissioner of Police Ifeanyi Emenari said intelligence reports link rustling to violent reprisals across the state. Clearance operations are underway in hotspot local government areas, including Apa, Logo, Katsina-Ala, Ukum, Gwer East and Guma. Tactical units have disrupted criminal networks, recovered stolen livestock and strengthened security in vulnerable communities. Residents are urged to provide credible information to aid ongoing operations and to rely only on official channels for accurate updates. The police stressed that buyers or shelters of stolen cattle will be treated as accomplices and prosecuted as collaborators in banditry.
